Health The regular monthly ineet- ing of, the Durham Region District Jlealth Coqncil was held last weck at the Dr. J. 0. Ruddy Ilospital in Whithy. Following a tour of the hospital,- members of the District Ifealth Council exchanged ideas with mem- bers of the Dr. J. 0. Ruddy Board - emfphasîzing the dif- ferent roles of each volun- teer board and agreeing to offer mutual support to each other planning for the pro- vision of health services in the Whitby area. The Durham Region District Health Council is an advisory body to Health Minister. Dennis Timbreil. >UIs mandate is to comment on the health needs of residents of Durham Region and more specifieally to plan for new services to reflect a changing population base and lifestyles.- The meeting with the Dr. .1. (). Ruddy Board is part of the new District Flealth Council's orientation, ta the Community health concerns as expressed by locally elected hospital and agency trustees. 'The meetings' said Henry Polak, Chairman of the District Health Council, 'are invaluable' in bringing together local volunteers to explore mutual concerns on the provision of services at the local level.' ln addition to receiving regular reports from the DIC'S two major task forces - Long Term Care/Geriatrics and Mental - the DHC approved the establishment of a, Community Health Liaison Committee.
