WHITBY FREE PRESS, NEW CAR SUPPLEMENT, WED GRAND PRIX The 1979 Grand Prix adds to its distinctive styling with a new front grille treatment and redesigned taillamps. The landau top beltline has been restyled and includes body-colored mouldings to give the car a longer, lower appearance. The optional painted accent stripe now extends around the entire car. A new lower vinyl accent stripe follows the wheel cut and rocker panel, and on the base model, includes the rocker panel extensions. The sporty two-tone paint treatment has been restyled so that the portion of the car below the beltline FIREBIRD The Firebird will again be offered in four models: base Firebird, Esprit, Formula and performance- oriented Trans Am. A Special Edition black Trans Am will be available at the start of production. All models featuring a distinctive new appearance' both front and rear with new front and rear end panels, bumper, grilles, taillamps and park and signal lamps. The Firebird grill for 1979 has a horizontal pattern integrated into the bumper and is bolder than in 1978. The four rectangular headlamps are housed individually in the front end panel. On the base Firebird and Esprit, the grille is bright silver argent, black and grey metallic with red tail- lamps. The Formula and Trans Am grill is bright silver argent and black (Special Edition is gold and black) and the taillamps feature an innovative and trend setting new black appearance treatment across the entire rear end which turns red when the lights are activated. Other new Firebird features for 1979 include column oented dimmer switch, deluxe wheel covers for the Esprit, available power tri-band antenna. four-wheel disc SKYHAWKS 1979 BUICK SKYtIAWK 1.j.u OSHAWA, Ont. - A car can be a Buick and sporty too, and in 1979, Skyhawk proves it with both interior and exterior refinements aimed at the driver who is looking for a car with flair. Al Skyhawks receive a new hood and front end treatment for 1979 with single rectangular head- lamps. But to really set the pace, there are two decor packages. When the designers' accent treatment is ordered, a choice of bright yellow or red in combina- tion with flat balck accent along and below the blet line. Also included are a s pate mit me Lwer accent color. A double two- tone package featuring an accent color stripe over the wheel openings and rocker panel mouldings is also available. All instrumentation coloring is changed from brushed aluminum to black with white indicators for improved gauge visibility and appearance. A brushed aluminum instrument panel trim plate is standard on the "SJ" A new four-speed manual transmission is available with the 4.9 litre four- barrel V-8. The 3.8 litre V-6 is the standard engine for the base Grand Prix. The "SJ" and "LJ" models utilize the 4.9 litre V-8 as base with the SJ using the four-barrel V-8 as base and the LJ using the two-barrel V-8. brakes for Formula and Trans Am and full-length accent striping instead of the over-the-roof stripe for base Firebird and Esprit. The Esprit has a new hobnail design seat available which is also optional on Formula and Trans Am. The Red Bird option continues for 1979. Standard steel belted radials on Rally II wheels coupled with the Trans Am" suspension, a standard 4.9 litre (301 CID) two-barrel V-8 engine and automatic transmission provide the 1979 Formula with' excel- lent handling and perform- ance. Body-colored hood scoops and sport mirrôrs, black reveal mouldings on the windshield and back- light together with the new grille and taillamp treat- ment enhance Formula's bold new look. It also features standard lower accent paint that comple- ments the exterior color and blends into a twotone bumper accent treatment. The interior has been upgraded to include rally gauges with lock and Formula steering wheel color keyed to interior trim. Again, a Formula appearance option is available that includes accent color and striping on the hood scoops, deck lid spoiler with Formula ID and accent stripe, accent striping on body-colored sports mirrors and large Formula ID on the doors. For the customer looking for an even mtore excitîng decor, there is the Limited Edition Road Hawk. Ligh silver above the belt line and darker silver below, the Road Hawk features a front air dam, .a rear spoiler which is integrated into the rear quarter panel and black-out mouldings. There is a special oyster vinyl bucket seat with hawk emblem and a new steering wheel also.
