Included in the guidelines to be used by the Councils Membership Search Committee, compris- ing both Council and non_ Council members, are provi- sions for introducîng new membership to the Council when current miembers terms end. The District Health Council comprising seven- teen volunteers from across the Region advises Health Minister Dennis Timbreil on the health needs of Durham r esidents. Appointments to the District Health Council are made by the Lieutenant Governor following approval of the reommendations by Health Minister Timbreil. "There is èoncern from some communities in the Region that,,they do not have adequate representation on the Council" said Mr. Polak. "With the guidelines we will be able to take these concerns into account when members corne up for re- appointment next June" he continued. The' currnt Membership Search Committee chaired by Grant MacDonald, Chair- man of the Port Perry Hospital Board will meet soon to review the approved guidelines and develop a procedure for inviting citizens of Durham to sit on the Council when vacancies occur. The Mental Health Committee has established a working group on Substance Abuse, to be chaired by Geoff Brown, Director of Addiction Research Foundation Office in Durham Region.
