The carnival committee bas adopted the Chamber's Sth anniversary as its theme, and the Chamber has adopted a "roaring 20s" formiat for the officiai opening of the carnival at Heydenshore Pavillon JuIy 26. The evening will begin with cocktails at 7 p.m., dinner at 8 p.m. and the presentation of the Peter Perry Award to the outstand- ing citizen of Whitby for 1977 at 9 p.m.. Tickets will be avafiable soon from the Chaniber office. The Chamber is also hold- ing its annual trade fair in Iroquois Park Arena JuIy 31 to Aug. 2from 6: 30 p. m.tIo 10 p.ni. Letters have been sent out and applications> are being receivedfor booths in the trade fair. Any business wanting a booth should eall the Chamber office at 668-4506 or Trade Fair- Committee Chairman Ralph Ritchie at 668-3351. -The biggest event of' the carnival, the Wintario Draw is also being hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. 1The draw will be televised live from Iroquois Park Arena Aug.,3, and a portion of the performance will be a one-minute spotlight on the Town of Whitby. Starting at 7:30 p.m. there wUi be entertainmentfeatur- ing the County Town Singers, the Whitby Brass Band and a variety show arranged by Bert Heaver. Tickets for the Wintario draw performance will go on sale July 21, at local retailers stili to be announeed. Again this year the Chamber of Commerce will be presenting a circus at the County Town Carnival. The Chamber bas engaged Lorne -Almack succeeded Shirley Pyke as President of the Ontario Reding Fed eral Progressive Conseivative Association at the associat- ion's recent arinual meeting. Garden Bros. Three-Ring Circus, which will be held in the Iroquois Park Arena on Aug. 5 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 6 at 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets for the circus wilI go on sale early in JuIy, *Ian Hogg is first vice- president; Peter Gillespie, second vice president; Rene Soetens, third vice-presi- dent; Dave Kemp, fourth vice-president; Mary McEachern, secretary; and Jack Whiting, treasurer.
