WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, MAY 17, 1978, PAGE 5 Corridor 6j.C'aperS Mother's Day is the day that aIl mothers are able to toss in their apron and quit their job. Funny, although.you plan to do just that, it rarelyturns out that way. Happy Mother's day to the greatest persons in the, world, who hold the most complicated trying job with the lowest pay. Being a mother. . . A special mothers day greeting to Connie Knox and MUM is the word. PARKS PROGRAM The Town bas decided against. sponsoring the children's supervised Parks summer Program this year, for financial reasons. The program bhas been'organized by the Town of Whitby Recreational Department for the past few years. If my memory 'serves me correctly the program was introduced around 1967 by recreation-conerned citizens. These persons, on a voluntary basis, sat, on a recreational coxnmittee, for the purpose of providing information to the town on the neéd of all phases of recreation. Since then a recreation director'and staff bas been added to Katway expansion bothers neighbors Residents near the Family Kartways Go-Kart track on Highway 12 north of Taunton Road will have a chance to consider with councils administrative future development of the site, after council referred a re- zoning bylaw back to the committee. Oland Wiles, a- resident north of a proposed expan- sion area beside the existing track told council of his concerns that the new track area will be used for racing go-karts which will create noise and pollution problemrs for himn. The new track would comne within 60 feet of his property, said Mr. Wiles. Councillor Bob Att ersley expressed concern about traffic problems at the entrance to the Go-Kart track, and said he was sur- prised to hear objections from neighbours now when the owner of the go-kart track had saîd there were no objections. Crafts are' sought for. carnival show Anyone interested in enter- ing the second annual County Town Crafts and Hobby Show is encouraged to start working on their projects now. JAMES PRENTICE, OPTICUAN 400-A DUNDAS Sf-. (AT KENT) WHITBY N 666-1646 the 'Town, so the' committee of laymen was no longer a necessity. It was feit the new department would be more qualified to determine the Town's needs. The Corridor Area appears to be the part of Whitby that will be most affected by the loss of the summer program. There are two parks, Willow & Elizabeth Creseent, in'our area. Last year 111 children registered and participated in the summer supervised parks program. For the Corridor area it would seem that the program was well received and certainly worthy of continuing. The Ratepayers Association have been attemtping, since February, to find the necessary funds to carry on the program for the children inour area. We have applied for a Provincial Grant and hopefully, the Province will be sympathetic to the children's needs. Any suggestions or comments from thearea residents would be most welcome. July is fast approaching.
