Bluegrass musitc club formed One of 'the most popular kinds of music lately has been B1uegrasý music-the banjo " Gpickin" style of Lester Flatt- and Earl Scruggs who played. the theme for the Beverly Hilibillies TV show. So popular is this type of music, that in October 1977, the Pineridge Bluegrass As- sociation was formed, with members from Port Hope and, Cobourg, in the east, tô Kitch- ener and Burlington in the west, and north to Lindsay. At the end of February the! membership had reached 1,60, and the Whitby area has bIe- corne a centre for the club's activities. Meeting are held ona,,reg- ular basis at the Columbus Town Hall, north of Oshawa. A meeting, followed by a "pickin" session is, held'the second Sunday ofeévery month from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.mn. and, "&pickin" seèssionsI -are, held, every fourth Sunday. The Pineridge Bluegrass. As- sociation held its first concert Jan. 29 at Heydenshore Pavi- llon in Whitby, where, ap-, proximately 400 people were entertained by Canada's Numn- ber One Bluegrass band called "Cody." On April 7 at 8 p*.m. at Heydenshore Pavilion, the as- sociation 'will presenit the Number One Bluegras's band in the United States for a number of years,"The Country Gentlemen." The association, which is a non-profit organization, hopes to have six concerts a year at Heydenshore. The preslent of theas sociation is Rod Craig, of Hampton,' and Carl Earl, of Whitby is, the vice-president.
