C. in Ottawa, squeezed'past Cam Davidson of Guelph C.C. 9-7 in' Saturday night's final ,to win the $3,000 first prize, played before a large crowd at -the Whitby- Curling -Çlub.. The Sun Life's defending champion, Jirn Sharples of Leaside C.C. after losing a tight 6-4 flirst event garne to Bob Charlebois,came through to win the $1 200first prize in the second event by edging past Shorty Jenkins of Trenton With Sharples were Vice Larry Dare, Second Johin Brother- hood and Lead John Wallace while Jenkins had Merv Paine at Vice, Brad Mitchell second and George Peters lead. Amie Easter of London S. S. with vice Tom Brown second Rick Uhrig and lead Kevin Breveik outscored Whitby's Clayton MacKay 9- 5. MacKay had Keith Lawes at vice, Charlie Fisher second and Doug Clifford lead. Easter reached the final by defeating Ed Luterback of Orillia and Dave Roberts of Unionville. MacKay had defeated Doug Palmer of St. Catherines and Ron Manning of Royal Cana- dia ns. In the fourth event, Randy Baker of St. Thomas C.C. wa5 forced to draw the button on the 1 Oth end to win 6-4 over 9Bonspiel Battling back fromn a 5.0 de- ficit, Steski madeaa tremner- dous double to courit three in the 7ih cutting the score to 5-3 for Baker. After Steski stole onie in the 8th and the ninth blanked, Baker was forced to make his superdraw to win. Playing with Baker were vice Jim Lyle,secondTim Inch and lead Chris Ingramn. Steski had John Scott as v ice, Greg Roffey as second and Dave Jerome as lead. Doug Palmner of St. Cathe- rines C.C. broke open a close game with Gerry Ho don of London C.C. by stealing four in the 8th end, and going on to a 7-2 Win to take the Fifth event. Palmer's -r ink consisted of vice Brian McQuiggan, second Bill Buchanan and leadf Dan Munroe, Hodson had Glen Webster vicing, Barry Pater- son as second and Ross Guest as lead. Bob Widdis of Humber Highland stole singles on two consecutive ends and went on to defeat Jin Waite of St.* Thomas C. C. 6-4 to win the sixth event. Widdis rink had Paul Carriere at vice, Howie, Colliers at second and Brian Lister at lead.
