Mail service is extended Postal service in new deve- lopments in Whitby will be improved during the next few months. Oshawa-Whitby MP Ed Broadbent announced Mon- day that the Otter Creek sub- division will be receiving green box service this week, and the residents of White Oaks Court (Sorichettiý apartments) will receive a postal walk sometime in March 1978. Residents of these areas Whitby's Jail and the Iro- quois Park recreation complex came under criticism in a 41 - page report released Thursday by a PublicInstitutions In- spection Panel. The seven-person panel, which presented its report to Judge J.P. Kelly, said the Whitby jail was a building designed for less than 60 in- mates, which contained more than 100. Although the panel was impressed with the security measures at the jail and said it was a "well-run facility," it was "shocked" at the over- crowded conditions in the jail's administrative office. No violations of rights were discovered following in terviews with prisoners, and the panel reported that pri- soners-staff relations were good. At the Iroquois Park swimming pool, the panel- ists, criticized the lack of a door to an electrical room and said some of the ceilings had been damaged by water. There were comments also about badly rusted parti- tions in the mens' change- room, and heating pipes in the arena not being insulated. However, the report puised» the Iroquois Park staff for their cooperation during the inspection.
