Hope all of you see this in time - 1 did flot hear about it until after last week's column had gone to press. The meetings were supposed to have taken place this Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Community Centre in Brooklin. However, council wishes to take a littie more tinie to study the reports themselves before a public presentation will be made. - The meetings will be scheduled for some future date. 1 understand that a tentative date for November has been set. It is unfortunate that the news of this canceltation could not have been given you sooner. Great news about the Sunday skating problem here in Brooklin! The Recreation Department has scheduled public skating ice time for Sunday afternoons in Brooklin in response to public -demnand with the full support of Council. The ice will go in next week here in Brookiin 1 believe *- the first Sunday skate shuùuld be on October 23. Check with the arena on this! Let's have a good turn- out - we have a lesson to learn from this incident if we don't participate in available programs; they will be cancelled. Let's not let th is happen here in Brooklin. The Brooklin and District Kinsmen will have their next meeting on Wednesday, October 12, 6:30 p.m. at the Legion Hall in Brooklin. On Friday, Oct. 7 the arena will be opon from 5 p.m. until 1 a.m. and on the Saturday the festivities will start at 2 p.m. and finish at 1. a.m. Both days there will be live music of al kinds, bar and food facilities and true Germian Octoberfest spirit. Admission will be two dollars per persori per day. Should be an entertaining weekend! At the Ashburn Presbyterian Church there will be an art exhibit featuring the work of local artist Jim Paget. This visual offering will be in keeping with the Thanks- giving theme. The paintings will hang in the upperpart of the churcli and will be available for viewing on Suncays only from October 9 until October 30 both during the morning service fromil a.m. until 12 noon and again fromn 2 until 4 p.m. in the afternoon. On Tuesday evening at Meadowcrest school as part of the celebrations four Beavers swami up to Cubs, four new boys joined Cubs and seven Cubs moved up to Scouts. After the ceremonies everyone present enjoyed a picce of the Anniversary Cake. The first meeting of the 1 st Brooklin Scout Troup wil be on Tuesday, October Il at the Brooklîn Community Centre frotn 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mr. Ian Stewart is the Scout Master and his assistants are Mr. Bill Pearen and Mr. Bob Ervine. Ail boys eleven years of age and over are welcome to join the troop. A ,Paper Drive will be this com»ing wee ,kend. People in the Ashburn area niay leave their paper at the Ashburn Community Centre even as late as this Friday. At the latest district meeting the paper drive chairman commented on the fact that the Brooklin area papers were always the best packed and tied papers of ail the Whitby groups. The scouts wish to thank ail of the local citizens for helping them to gain this good reputation. Keep up the good work!
