Apr il Whitby girls who are interested in the sport of Ringette are invited to Ringette demonstrations March 26 and April 2 from 11: 50 a.m. to 1 :50 p.m. each day at the Iroquois Park Arena. No admission fee will be charged, and the demonstra- tion is open to girls *aged eight to 14. Skates should be brought, but sticks will be availa ble at the arena. Helmets with face guards are- required when competing.' Ringette, a gamre for girls, on ice, was developed as an active girls" sport in recent years and now provides a challenging recreational and competitive program. Skill improvement is fostered, in a positive atmosphere with little or no boay contact allowed on the ice. Basically the sport involves the girls with skating, stick- handling, shooting and defense work, utilizing a stick and ring which they attempt to manoeuvre through team- Oshawa and Frenchman's Bay win in volleyball Hillsdale P.S. of Oshawa (Boys) and Frenchman's Bay P.S. of Pickering (Girls) emer- ged victorious at the March 4th volleyball tourniament sponsored by the Durham Elementary Athletic Associa- tion. The tournament brought more. than 100 students from ail corners of the region. The 12 teams competing had won the championship in their own areas and met at Anderson Collegiate in Whitby to deter- mine the overail champions for Durham. For the coaches and phiyers it was an exciting culmination to several mnonths of hard work. CKLB-CKQS are pleased to announce the continuation of an association with the Montreal Club that goes back to the very early days of .the Tom Gresham is new curling club manager TOM GRESHAM Tom Gresham, a long-time Whitby resident, will succeed Ted Briggs as manager of the Whitby Curling Club March 21. Mr. Gresham lived in Whitby for 15 years before he left for Toron to, and later England, six years ago. During his residence in this area he was a member of the Whitby Court of Revision and Chamber of Commerce and a Public School trustee in Pickering. Expos.
