Police attend region meeting Somebody was sufficiently concerned about Whitby rate- payers' anger over sewer and water bills spreading to the regicnal council chambers, that last Wednesday two police officers attended. the Durham Regioti council. Rumors apparently were circulating that trouble might carry over from a stormy public meeting in Whifby March 6, that a request carne frorn regional counicil for the officers to be present, said Police Chief Jon Jenkins. Who actually made the request is flot known. Both Regional Chairman Walter Beathi and Councillo r Alan Dewar of the Police Com- mission said they did flot watnt the request. Mr, Dewar said he suggested that tlhe officers,ýe told they did flot hiave 1v stay. 1 New Brooklin. Mrs. Wetherall will be available t0 direct residents' questions f0 the variouS experts concerned with certain aspects of Brooklin planning, and will receive questions and comments. At various times, these experts will be at the centre fo answer questions and dis- cuss their various fields of interest with the residents. These experts include James Murray, chief planning con- suItant; Garnet Bacchus, traffic consultant; Sheldon Meslin, municipal finance consultant-, and Ron Patchel, enigineering consultant. Mr. Kurnove says the centre is flot putting on a campaign f0 convince anybody (if any. thiing, but f0 bring out the coimnînty's cornments. "Il is hoped thiat one way or another the goals of the cornmunity and the developer will becomne- integrated in somne reason:ible fashion", he says. Mr. Kurnove plans f0 have questionnaires available for residents f0 filI in with corn- nients on the various planining issues, and there will be paper available for people f0 write their comm-ents or even draw their own mnaps. Professor Murray, the chief Planning Consultant for CBC at Brooklin, has been busy this week addressing citizens of the comnmunity.
