Mr. Manning, his wife, Veronica, and son Dennis, were the guests of honor for the evening as the Region expressed its recognition of Mr. Manning's services fo)r nearly 30 years as clerk- treasurer of Ontario County and chief administrative officer of Durham Region. Mr. Manning retires-on April 1, 1977. Ontario's Minister of Agriculture, Bill Newman, presented Mr. Manning with a plaque from the provincial govemment in honor of his municipal service. "WVhen 1 was on county Couincil, one of the great teachers 1 had wvas Bill Manning", said Mr. Newvman. "He gave me my basic train- ing to understand the p'litical process, and without hlm I1 wvou1d not be where 1 arn today.
