Gordon Richard, works manager at the DuPont of Canada plant in Whitby from 1958 to 1974, and une of the foundcrs of the Dr. J. 0. Ruddy General Hospital, died suddenly at, Senneville Quebec, JuIy I10, of a suspect- cd heart attack. Ile was 56 years old. During his 1 6 years in Whitby, Mr. Richards was weIl-known as a community -minded individual. *lie worked with the late Dr. J. O. RUddy to establish .a geîieral hospital for Whitby, and served for a imne as chair- man of the huspital's board of governors. H-e was also a member of the Whitby Planning Board, Whitby Chamber of Com- merce, and Oshawa Golf Club. In 1961 Mr. Richards wvas presiden t of the Charn ber of Comminerce. Mr. Richards was born in Toronto, and graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree ini engineering. Thickson Road interchange flot ca priority The Region of Durham is concerned about improving the Highway 401 interchange at Thickson Road, but the provincial government does flot consider the project a priority item. In a letter to the region last week, L. R. Eadie, assistant deputy minister for the Ministry of Transporta- tion and Communications said that in relation to pro vincial priorities, reconstruc- tion of the Thickson Road, interchange caninot b)e justi- fied ai this lime.
