We were tiot to(> inlpresse(l about letters incant for Witby, being addressed "Oshawa", but it was ail right, -as long as the postal code was correct, accord- ing to the post office officiai. We now ask thîs officiai to explain the following incillent: A letter frorn The Little Ex in Oshawa was mailed to "M.B.M. Publishing, 1 21 Brock St. North, Whitby, LIN 4H3", with a p'wt mark of May 26, 1976. We received the letter on Juiy 9, after it had corne the long way- by way of England. It appears that the post office sorters thought the word "Whitby" in the address was. "Wembly", and off it went. It did not seem to matter that a Canadian postal code was beiow the word "Whitby", and as long as the postal code is correct, we are assured we wili get the letter promptly. of f ice On Junle 8, tbc envelope was back-stanîped witb canitcella-,tionis froin Mallethiorp)e & Sutton-on- Sea, anid Lincoln, Eîîgland. This is tiot the firsi timie we bave been inade aware of the dextrotis sorting ability of the Canadian Post Office. In the Free Press of May 26, we pictured a letter aclcressed to the Chiamber of Commnerce in Whit by, Yorkshire Enigland. froini Wiîonîîock, B.C., whicb eîîded up at the Wbitby, Ontario Cham ber of Commerce office. It mnakes us wonder what the postai code is for and wbether we should have new eyegiasses provided to the post office sorters. It mnay seemn a trifling natter to complain about, but that letter to MIBM Publishirig con- tained a cheque for a substantial amount of mnoney in paymnent for advertising in the Free Press. When a smal business has to survive on the prompt collection of its receipts, such carelessness- by the post office is not appre ciated.
