It is even more rare when the people of a community thank an industry for doing somnething above and beyond its duties. Well, a major industry in this community has done something which warrants- thanks from- the people of the area. Lake Ontario Steel Company Limited, with its donation of S25,000 toward the cost of the Hutchison Park tennis courts, has added another ini its long list of contributions to the community. For years, LASCO has continuied to support varionis community groups and l)rojects. For that, we thank LASCO on behaif of the people of the community who have benefitted from the company's continuing involvement in the commutnity. He sent mle to the 1ýy-law Dept., who looked into the matter and said there was no by-law to prevent people- from lIetting mun-off go on someone else's land. Thie lady should sue. No explanation of under whiat law. No on(- really cared. 1 received the impression thiat thiere were more chiiefs than Indians -- lots of people to do the paper work and enjoy coffee breaks. The tax depart- ment did not fail to colleet taxes. Thiere are apparently too few people actually working at the problemrs of taxpayers and it is time there was someone to ýassist us simple folk to wade through the bureaucracy to find a respon sible person - time for anl ombudsman 1 would think - a littie less P.R. and a bit more practical service, caring about and following up pro blems. It was mailed on May 1l from Whonnock B.C., and clearly addressed to the Chamber of Commerce of Whitby, Yorkshire England. Who knows whalt the post office will do for an encore?
