Bell Canada is offering free Touch-Tone service to residence custoniers during the period from May 3 to May 28. During that tirne, telephone users in Whitby can have their rotary dial phone (or phones) removed and Touch-Tone sets installed in their home without having to pay a service charge. Furthermnore, for any two-week period commencing between May 3 and May 28, they xill not have to pay the usual TôuçhWToneý- monthly rate of $2.15. "If they want to ke ep the phone, they wil start paying the monthly rate at the end of the two week trial", said Warren Turnham, Bell Canada manager. "But they will have had it installed at no charge as well as having had the use of it free for two weeks". If, at the end of two weeks. or ai any time during it, the customier wants the service rermoved, Bell Canada will re-instaîl the formier rotary dial phone without charge. No one who wishes to try Touch-Tone service will have their telephone number changed. "It takes special equipm-ent in a central office to hiandle Touch-Tone service, but Whitby has had this equip- ment since last year", Mr. Turnhiam exptained. .1He pointed out that it is faster and easier to tap out a telephone numnber on the Toucli-Tone buttons than it is to dial the samne number. "We find that most people whio have tried Touch-Tone .,phones Rie themn and we hope to intro- duce them to more Whitby homes with this free trial offer", said the Bell manager.
