The capital, Victoria, a Vancouver Island, is a city of gardens accessible by passenger and car ferry. From a double- decker bus, visitors can see the influence of the Victorian Age in Olde England in the architec- ture, antique shops and lamp-posts. The Butchart Gardens, outside the city limits, are rich with a. fantastic and colourful array of flowerbeds. Other cultural attractions are a plane- tarium, the Museum of Man and Nature, and the new Winnipeg Art Gallery with its fine collection of Canadian and European paintings and Eskimo art and sculpture. L Geographically, Saskat- chewan varies, north and south, from northern wilderness through central rolling parkland to southern prairie vastness. The latter terrain is the tradenark of Saskat- chewan as hundreds of postcards testify. There are very few of us who have not seen the hun- dreds of gaily coloured graitn elevators dotting the wheatfields or the haunt- ing sight of the prairie landscape lit up by the harvest moon captured in pictures. The thousands of acres of parkland and pine contrast perfectly with the prairie vastlands. Trout, pike and walleye abound in rushing rivers I. Daytime or evening riverboat cruises on the. Red or Assiniboine Rivers are available as well as two and five-day luxury cruises on Lake Winnipeg, for. a relaxing vacation. Nineteen miles from Winnipeg is historic Lower Fort Garry, the only intact stone fort of the fur trade era in North America. Manitoba is noted for its more than 100,000 lakes with miles of glistening sandy beaches, and fine fishing. Nature's beauty can be seen at its best in Riding Mountain National . Park, and Whiteshell.Provincial Park, which offers an 18-hole golf course, riding stables, rugged landscapé and the Alf Hole Goose Sanctuary.
