The group spent 18 days there in August 1974 and have been invited, back by thieir Austrian hosts, the Liederliort Tosters, a choir from the city of Feldkirch. The Liederhort Tosters visited Whitby in 1973. The 1974 trip included visits 10 Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. The, singers hope' to revisit each of these places and have als6 included France on their proposed itinerary. About 130 singers, auxil- iary members ýand townspeople went on the lasItnrp. Approximate costs for the upcoming excursion are $480 per person for aireare and $406 per person for hotel accomodations, breakfasts, transportation on land and a farewell -party for the Austrian hosts. Free Press Photo Meals Without Wheels Program expanding The Meals Without Wheels program of Whitby Seniors co-operating is continuing 10 supply a much-needed service for the senior citizens of the Town of Whilby. Seniors co-operating have new received a grant lhroungh the Newi Horizons program of the federal government and plans are being made for furîher service 10 the seniors . of Whilby., Pal Bell, well-known rnembers of the local Knighls of Columbus Council, has taken over leadership of the sponsoring group and a coun- cil has been appointed 10 assist in the operation of the programs. The Meals without Wheels service was started last July by Carl Mantz, who has with- drawn from the program because of the pressure of other inlerests. The program provides ful course meals to senior citizens for 75 cents Mondays,' Wednesdays and Fridays aI noon ai the Knights of Columbus Hall. An added fealure of the program is Wednesday bingo and euchre games, open to senior cilizens regardless of whether or not lhey purchase meals. The games gel underway ai about 1 p.m. for rnost of the fund raising. Tentative plans for raising money include concerts, record sales and dances. The group also hopes to obtain provincial and federal government grants and also a grant from Wintario. On initial paymnent of $52,834 towards the cost of the new senior citizens' acti- vity building has been received by the Town of Whitby. The activity centre on Brock Street South opened on February 7 and will receive a total of $75,00 towards the capital expendi- tu re. It will also be eligible for grants for operatiflg various programs. The grant received ap- proval before the Minislry of Community and Social Services' financial restraint program went mbt effect, but funds fo r new capital construction or new programs will not be available. During 1976-77, funds for most social service agencies will increase by only 5.5 per cent.
