The Whitby Fire Depart- ment and the toWn recreation departmnent have teamied Up to co-ordinate the carnival at the Iroquois Park Arena, March 4 to 7, in celebration of the fire department's I 25th Sanniversary. I The events get under way at 8 p.m. March 4 with the regular Whtby Warriors hockey game plus a few other special attractions. Special rates will be charged for high sehool students that niglit and there wilI be the crowning of a Carnival Queen and two princesses, selected from- the town 's high schools. Three girls fromn each of the town's three high schools an d the Ontario Ladies' College will be competing for the honor, and the queen will be crowned by Mayor Jim Gartshiore at the carnival's opening ceremonies between the second and third periods of the hockey game. The opening ceremonies will be at 9:30 p.m. On Friday, March 5 there will b e a variety of school hockey and broombail games, starting at 5 p.m. with King Street Sehool playing Palmer- ston. At 6 p.m. there will be 'a girls' broombali game between Ontario Ladies' College and Anderson Collegiate, follow- ed at 6:45 p.m. by a broom- :b6all gamne between Henry Street High School and Denis 0O'Connor. At 7:35 p.m. the Whitby Figure Skating Club will put -on an hour-long demonstra- tion. followed by a hockey -garne between Henry- à nci Anderson Highi Schools. Saturday, Mardi 6 froni 10 a.m. to noon there wilI be skate races for public schiool grades one to eight, followed by hockey garnes between Hutchison and St. Paul's Schools and Meadowcrest and West Lynde schools. At 2:15 p.m. there wilI be a girls' Ringette gaine, followed by more high school hockey and broombail games, throughout the afternoon. At 8 p.mi. there wilI be a gamne by the Brooklin- Whitby Minor Hockey Association. The game schedule of broombali and hockey wilI begin again at 1: 15 p.rn. Sunday March 7, followed by final skate-races at Sp.l.- In the evening there will be the finals of the public and higli school hockey and girls' broombal1 games. 'Admission to the winter carnival events wilI be 50 cents for aduits and 25 cents for children. Deputy Recreation Direc- tor Fred Beckette and Fire Chief Ed Crouchi are the co-ordinators of the winterl c'arnival, the first to be held ini the Iroquois Park Arena.
