The 24th annual conven- tion of the Ontario Associa- tion of Fire Chiefs will be held May 2 to 5 at the Holiday Inn in Oshawa, with thc Whitby Fire Department as host, and the 75th annual convention of the Ontario Fire Figliters Association will be held at the Brooklin Memorial Arena July 30 to Aug. 2. One hundred and fifty fire chiefs and their wives from across Ontario will be attend- ing the Fire Chefs' conven- tion, and 300 delegates are expected to converge on Brooklin for the OFFA con- vention. On Monday, May 3 tièere will be tire electiori of thre 1976 executive of tire association, and a series of workshops for fuli-time coin- posi te, volunteer andciniidustrial fire departnients. A hot topic in more ways than one will bc the new tOntario Building Code which came into force Jan. 1. Other topies of discussion will be 3emiergency reporting, standard- ization of fire equipnient, pre-fire planning water sup- plies for flire fighting, and preventative maintenance of fire apparatus. There wilI aLso be a demnon- stration, of apparatus and equipment by exhibitors. On May 4 there will be reports made on the work.- shops, and a panel discussion on tire Ontario Building Code, with representatives from the provincial governmnent, Ontar- io Builders' Officiais Associa- tion, and the fire chiefs. A representative of the Metro Toronto personnel departmient will discuss fire service management, and a doctor will talk about health hazards in fire fighting. The day will conclude with the annual conference banquet. On the final day of the conference there will be the presentation of resolutions and final reports. A ladies' prograrn is offered in conjunction wvith the con- vention, with an annual meet- ing and luncheon at Hleyden- shore Pavillion, and a tour of Parkwood in Oshawa anid tîhe Metro Toronto Zoo. Although this yeur marks the first limie the Whitby Fire Departnîent has been host to a Fire Chiefs' Association convention, it is the third tirne it hias played host to the Ontario Fire Fighters AssoLiation. The other conventions were iii 1939 and 1969. Original plans called for the use of Ileydenshore Park as the site for the OFFA convention, but the park was found to be 100 sinil for the convention's needs. Therefore, said Chief Croucli, the site to be used wili be the Brooklin arena and the adjoining park where the Brooklin Spring Fair is held. On 'the Sunday tirere will be a miemoriai service at the arena, and on the Saturday, tire business sessions wiIl be hield. Camiping faciiities will be provided on the fair grounds for tire delegates, and water and rýydro will be supplied. Already the Whitby Fire Departmnent lias begun to promote thre two conventions with thre sale of souvenir beer mugs at $2 apièce, which are available at the main fire hall at Brock and Coiborne Streets. ,Aiso, there will be dances at Hevdenshore Pavillion Marcir 17 and June 12, for which tickets are already on sale.
