Anyone who was in the Iroquois Park Arena on Thursday evening was treated to some fantastically exciting hockey wben the Whitby Warriors and the Cambridge Hornets got together for an Ontario Hockey Association Senior 'A' tiff. .The teams ended up in a 3-3 deadlock after a scoreless 10-minute sudden death over- tinie period. The- overtiine period and the final five minutes of regu- lation play were piayed amid frequent and lengthy chants of 'go Whitby, go' sent up by many of the 863 spectators in attendance. Howie Menard, who re- cently gave up his coaching duties to last season's playing '. coach Dave Nicholishen to concentrate on his on-ice per- formance, had a hand in al the Warriors' goals, scoring two and assisting on the other. He o'penéd the scoring in the early stages of the first period but that goal was can- celled out when Hornets' Randy Steubel connected on a iow slap shot from the point as Canmbridge enjoyed a two-man advantage. Steve Robson gave the vi- sitors a short-lived lead which was erased less than a mi.ute later by the Warriors' Peter Vipond. Whitby had several oppor- tunities to get the go-ahead goal in the second period. Greg Bodnar, on a break- away, faked Hornets' goal- tender Bob Dupuis to the ice but could not lift the puck over hM. Ken Desiardine missed a partially open net after taking a fine set Up. But it was Cambridge who got the period's only goal when AI Osborne, at the edge of Warriors' netininder Brian Wilson's crease, slapped home a pass froin behind the net. Whitby had several mare good chances but the bcst two were snuffed out when Dupuis acrobatically snared deflected shots in his catch- ing glove. The Warriors blew a golden opportunity to tie the score when they failed to connect with a two nman adivantage late in the period. Whitby had several chances to get the equalizer in tlw third period. D avies re-elected Bryan Davies of Whitby was elected to a second terni as President of the Ontario Minor Lacrosse Association at the Annuai Meeting heid recently. Mr. jibvies is a Past Presi- dent of Whitby Minor Lacrosse Association and the South Centrai Zacrosse Assoc- iation. He has previously served as Secretary, Registrar and Vice President of the Ontario Minor Lacrosse Asso- ciation and was the 1973 reci- pient of the "Mr. Lacrosse" award from the Ottario Lacrosse Association, for bis contributions to tLie gaine of lacrosse - In his report to the meet- ing, Mr. Davies was pleased to report a 20 percent increase i registrations across the pro- vince, and at the samne time a 25 percent decrease ini major penalties for the 1975 season.
