The news report quoted Regional Councillor Gerry Emm as having said that Councl, and the Town, would flot be welI-served by contin- uing the court battie. So, ladies and gentlerneiit, the great high.rise fight is over, and, once again, the interesis of people are sacrificed to the interests of dcvelopment. The people of this community, ably represented as they were by Bd Dawson and compiny, artictilated our oppostion to this devlopmcnt in clear, concise terms over a period of some seven months to as many levels of government as would listen. They pointed out continnally that there was no need for these towers, that the eftècts on traffic, transportation, schools, services, and the cnvironment would be undesirable, and that the people of our commiunity were opposed. But, to what cnd? The logic of their approach was lost in the il-logic of the decision to proceed. The forthrigh tness of their objections was lost in the convolution of the rebuttals. So, we wiIl have sitting high in the west a highrise tower complex for ail to sec and rcflect upon. And whcn reflecting upon it, remnem ber the following: A. it is based on figures of need which the Town Council said publicly are not factual; B. it has been described as a mistake by the former Mayor of Whitby; C. it does not have the support of Town Council, or the community; and, D. it is low-rental. Why it finally came to pass, we will neyer know. Sh.ýr! Scribbles: Don't forget Thursday night 16, they play Lan cers. the Warriors play their home games cvery at Iroquois Park.
