Bell manager justif ies rate hikes' 9nraei vrtepatya, Warren Turnhiam, local Bell Canada Manager, attempted recently to justify Bell's rate increase applica- tion to Whitby Council. Council, when it heard of the application in June, recorded its opposition to the increases and suggested to other municipalities that they do the same. Delivery of the Regional Municipality of Durhamn and surrounding area directory has begun and is expected to be finished by September 5. Mr. Turnham saici that subscribers who require an extra directory can phone the Bell business office to make arrangements. For the whole area of the Durham directory, 121,725 copies are being delivered thîs year, compared to 130,867 last year, with a conservation of 14,382 - directories, because of one book per household. Cover design of the new directory has letters of the dial in various shades of brown, orange, black andi white. The Olympic symbol is'on the back cover. Mr. Turnham saici the in- formation section has a page of helpful hints on how to finci numbers readily i the white pages andi anotfler on finding government listings alphabetically. This information is part- icularly helpful now that there is a 25 cent charge for each unnecessary caîl to directory assistance, Mr. Turnhamn said. Another of the introductory pages ex- plains the function of direc- tory assistance charges.
