KINSMEN FUN COMPETITIONS The Whitby Kinsmen Club is taking a more active pari in the County Town Carniva every year, according to th( list of projects it hias taken or for Whitby's annual summer event. On Saturday August 2 the>' will be holding their annual fun competitions in Kinsmen park, starting- at 2 p.m. These include log, sawing, horse shoe, pitching and football throwing.' Throughout the carnival the Kinsmen will be settlng up booths at the various events to seIl lotter>' tickets on a 1975 Pontiac Ventira. The draw for the car will take place, at tie Iroquois ' Park Arena, the evening of August 4, with proceeds going to- wards Cystic Fibrosis research and community service work. The Kinsmen are also resporisible for the Count>' Town Carnival parade August 2 and for production oU the prograrns which wil be dis- .tibuted to every household in Whitby b>' mail about Jul>' 1 5. The ment's parade integral County Whitby Fire Depart- pyjama dance and will again be an part of this year's Town Carnival. The dance is scheduled to get under way at 9 p.m. Aug- ust 2 at the Centennial Building, with a costumed parade through town led by a piper and drummer starting at 10:30 p.mn. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. A limited hiumber of tickets are avalable from members of the fire depart- ment at $2 per person. Those interested in attending are encouraged to obtain their tickets as early as possible. Wesides holding, the pyjama dance, the fire fight- ers are responsible for the giant fireworks display held as a grand finale to the carni- val at 9:30 p.m. Monda>' August 4. The fireworks wll be set off in the field south of Iroquois Park as It was last year, and according to the fire fighters there will be a few surprises this year. ROTARY PANCAKE BREAKFAST à says Mr. Rich. CARNI VAL FLOWER SHOW Plans are shaping up for the Whitby Rotary' Club's annual pancake breakfast lat the County Town Carnival and this year the club intends to be propared in case of rain. The breakfast wlll be held ~-again at Heydenshore Park from 8 a m. to 11: 30 a.m . Suniday August 3 and arrange- ments are belng made to use Heydenshore Pavilion in case of bad weather. After last year's rain-out the Rotary, Club received ah offer fromn the Lions Club'to use their Bavarian Beer Gar- den. tent for the breakfast, but the Rotafians decided that it would lose the atmosphere of the lakeshore if it m oved irito a tent, says Claire Rîch who is respon- sible for organizing the break- fast. -hn200pol -Morethn200poe attended the breakfast in 1973 and the club is prepar- ing for a crowd of at least 2,200 this year. Six stoves wlll be cooking pancakes ail at once, and to teed the hungzy crowd the Rotary Club ýwill have on hand 500 pounds of pancake flour, 15 cases of syrup, 70 pounds of butter, 1,200 halU pints of milk for the children 100 half-gallons of milk for the pancakes, 2,500 paper plates, serviettes and forks, and coffee to serve 1,500 people. Since the price oU some of thiese products has tripled in the past year, the Rotarians %iave had to raise the admis- sion price for adults to $1 .50 from $1, but children will stili be able to get in for 50 cents. This year's show will fol- low the carnival theme of "Whitby Welcomes The World's Plowmen," and will have,48 classes; 36 for speci- men' flowers or plants, il decorative including- four miniature classes, and onie class for display of fruit and vegetables.
