Ian Hopkins bas ebail Area baseball fans wil have an action packed week- end on July 12 and 13 when the Whitby Minor Basebali Association and the Oshawa Legion Basebail Association join forces to co-host their 4th niidget basebail tourna-, ment which biings to the area somne of Ontario's top midget clubs to compete in the two- day event. The two associations tumn aside their friendly rivalry to organize and operate the event which has been quickly established as one of the premier events for clubs in the midget bracket. This year 16 clubs wlll play in 23 gamnes using four parks to declare a toumrnment champ- ionship. On Saturday, July ri, four parks. Oshawa's Kinsmen Stadiumn, E. A. Fairman and Peel Park in Whitby and Cedar Park in Ajax wlll be the scene of ac- tion with alrnost continuous play, fromn 9:30 amr. until 5:45 p.m. The schedule cails for gaines at 9:30 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. on opening day when the field will be whittled down to eight clubs.- Each club Wrestling returns to Whit- by next Wednesday, July 9, ai 8:45 p.m. in the Iroquois Park Arena. Tom Scheefer ând Gar- eth Grainger added singles for the winners while George McDonald replied in a losing cause. MOSQUITOES Doug Grant provided the necessaiy offensive punch as his Stokely Van Camp edged Longmnuir Builders 3-2. Greg Degannes and Mark Vesters scored for the losers. Mercantile and Whitby Lions fought to a 6-6 draw Carmnelo Scaffidi scored four turnes for Mercantile and Frank Princiotta twice. War- ren Smith scored three goals; Joey Bryant, two; and Paul McNeil one for the losers. Sinclair Sunoco dumped Gord Nieuwendyk Sports 5-2. as Bobby McArthur and Risto Santala each scored a pair and Gary Winkel con tri- buted a single for the winners. David Blacquiere picked up both of the losers' goals.' Croxail got a pair of goals each from Jamnie and David Boyc e and singles from War- ren Prest and Mike Cachia as they beat Kiwanis Club 6-2. Ron Maguire and Ch ris Johnston scored for th e losers. PEEWEES David Lynde hcld Adebar Athletics off the scoreboard as Brooklin Legion won 3-0 on singles by Tim Allens, Jim Stachow and Steve Disney. Consumners' Gas defeated Four Sevens Realty 5-3 with Jeff Wells scoring thrce tirnes and Kevin Lintner twice. Rick Stacey, Tomn Wolff and Kevin Green scored for the losers. -David Lynde recorded another shutout and Johin Stachow scored thve times to Ilead Brooklin Legion to a 7-0 verdict over Local 222. Jim Stachow and TimAllens added singles. MAJOR BANTAMS Luigi Favit's goaltending and Russ McKim's single goal gave Lasco a 1-0 decision ove rWh itby Legion. Ewing Pool took a narrow 3-2, victory from Armstrong Homes as Robbie Frendo- cumbo scored twice and Kelly once. Robin Nagy and Blair Gibson tallied in a losing cause. JUNIOR GIRLS In one of three shutouts in this division, Pine Ridge Nurseries blanked Mitchell Brothers Building Supplies 2-0 with Terri Lee Sandford in goal and Lisa Smith scoring twice. Michel Pineiro scored a hattrick and Sharon Roberts played flawless netmninding as Patannas Ladies Fash ions trounced Munn's Press 5-0 Heather Nelson and K. Mur- phy added singles. Pickering Road Runners blanked Patannas Ladies Fashions 2-0 as Joanne Baks recorded the shutout and Linda Hartjes scored twice INTERMEDIATE GIRLS Pickering Flyers shutout last-place Carols Kittens 3-0. Gus Brown Motors scored an identical 3-0 victory over Ajax Mohawks as Debbie fluinink picked up the shut- out and Joanne Mulcahy scored three times. Carols Kîttens suffcred their second shiutout defeat of the week as Optimists intrntioaltrounced them 7-0. Carnie McKendrick, Jackie Koenders 4nd, Caroline Millar scored foe the losers. w- The Whitby Flying V's, sponsored by Durham Vitalizing, recorded two shutouts in Mosquito Select soccer action. [n an exhibition contest, the Flying V's blanked Mid- land 4-0 with Gary McCoy in goal. The V's who were without five regulars, got goals by Greg Degannes, Scott Lintner, Jamnie Cane and Ricacy Wood. The undefeated V's then met the unbeaten Club Lore- ley from Oshawa and kept themn off the scoreboard as they won 4-0. Warren Sub- jeet opened the sco ring at the 19-minute mark and Whitby began to take com- mand. Scott Lintner, Craig Sharp and Warren Subject tallied insurance markers in the second haif. Whitby Pizzazip Peewe Alistars competed in the Al Ontario Soccer Championship in Barrie. Whitby were eliminated from further action after los- ing 4-1 to host Barrie Opti- mists in the opening garne. It was a case of a controlled passing teain losing to a kick and run style squad. Barrie used their size 'to advantage, stopping Whitby from build- ing up a fluid attack. Whitby scored first when Stuart Priest headed the baîl into the net on a fine corner kick from Garvin Clarke at the 11- minute mark. The Optimnists tied the contest a minute later and went ahead at the 24 minute mark on goals by Steve Tim- mons. Dave Martin, who set up Timmons' goals, and Ro- bin Chambers scored insur- ance markers in the second h alf., Whitby Pizzazip then trounced Bay Ridges 11l-l1in Peewee County Interdistriet Soccer League action.
