The victory leaves- the Whitby team trailing 3-I in, their best-of-seven playoff series. A hiattrick performance by' Don, Nicholson spear- headed the Whîby drive which also featured some fine defensive play. Whitby- opened by scoring two quick goals in the first period with North York re- turning die favour in the second. 1hn the third Wliitby rallied back* with Nicholson, Jim Duigan, and Tom McLeish scoring with the defence playing a tight game. In the previous three games which Whitby had lost 5-5, 4-2 and 7-3 respectively their performances were marred by defensive lapses and costly penalties., Scoring for- Whitby in game one were Nicholson with two, Greg Sanford, Mark' Sullivan and MikeNoonan.. In the second gamne, the Whitby' defense was again, noticeably slack and Rangers won 4-2. Whitby scorers in that game' were Don Nicholson and Greg Sanford. Macs Lose to Barrie Flyers .The Whitby Senior A McDonalds, despite Ilosing 4-2, turned in a strong per- formance against the league- leading Barrie Flyers on Fri- day. - The last lime the two teamns met in Barrie, the Flyers trounced Whitby 9-0. On Friday, Barrie's Paul Regan, league leading scorer, scored three times to lead the Flyers. Phil Branstôn tallied once. Bob Munro and Gary Milroy replied for the Macs Ahlistars Trounce Cobourg impressive! That's the only way to describe the Whitby Mal Florists Novice Alîstars after-- they outscored their oppo- nents 28-3 in three recent games. In a dazzling aIl round display, Whitby trounced Cobourg 14-O. Billy Callan and Geordie Muschette scored hattrick while Dave Sachko and Joey Nieuwendyk each collected two goals. Jeff Hailey, Greg Ellis, Darrin Bradley and Dave Donaldson rounded out the scoring with singles. In an away game Whitby shutout Stouffville 5-O. Mark Sweetland scored two-goals while Greg Ellis Dave Sachko and Joey Nieuwendyk each picked Up agoal. Paul Guest and Steve Gibson split the excellent goaltending providing Whitby with the shutout. In another home game Whitby thumped Bowrnan- ville 9-3. who only took three defence- men with themn. Barrie led 2-O after one period and 3-1 after two. In one point-in the final frame, Whitby trailed by 3-2. Ho)wever, Branston scored the insurance marker to ice the victory for Barrie. McDonalds pressed in the dying minutes -but weren't able to find the range. Mike Keenan, who has been out most of the season with a shoulder injury, under- went surgery earlier in the week. Keenan, who is experienc- ing severe pain, had the pin removed from his shoulder and exploratory surgery per- formed.
