Formed in 1969, the regis- tration of boys piaying organ- ized basebaîl in the town has doubled from 335 to over 600 and thie number of clubs operated by the association lias climbed froml twenty-five in 1969 to thirtyv six in 1974. ln its initial year of operation the W.MB.A. operated House Leagues at Tyke and Peewee Levels and clubs ln Tyke, Peewee, bantam' and ridget competition in the Eastern Ontario Basebaîl Association- Over the years the association has expanded to include a Tee-bail group for boys flot yet old enough for conven- tional basebal and a success- fui Bantam-Midget Flouse League which has included entries frorn Oshawa and Bownmanville - On two occasions, 1970 and 1973, the Ontario Tyke 'A' Championship has corne to Whitby, and local clubs have fared well in numerous tournanients inost notably CBC JuvYen'files Sp A shiort handed C.B.C. squad lost an important con- test to the Ajax Juveniles in Ajax on January 2 1 bly a score of 5 to 3. The C.B.C.'s had control for the majority of the gamne, but their erratic shooting proved to be their downfall. This teani aiso bas to learn flot to let the inconsistent calîs of the referees upset their style of play. Dave Graham and Ross Watson each scored twice for the winners with a single by Pete Gilbert. Replying for the C.B.C.'s were Jim DeMille with 2 and Tim Brown. Two of these to the visitors were question ab le. EdSzczur of the C.B.C.'s picked up 2- big ones with singles going to Armand Robitaille and St-eve Sand- ford. Rick Matheson was the only Trenton player able to put the puck behind C.B.C. goalie Tom Connelly and this late in the third. the K of C Tykes who won the Tournarnent of Cham- pions sponsored by the New- market Association in 1971, and the Legionaire Peewee club which won the Greater Niagara Falls Tournament in 72.. 1972 was the most suc- cessful season for Whitby clubs in Eastern Ontario play when local clubs brought home the Tyke, Peewee and Midget crowus-and the right to represent Eastern Ontario lu the provincial playdowns. For the past three seasons the W.M.B.A. has teamned up with the Oshawa Legion Basebali Association to host what has become one of the top Midget tourneys in--the province. The event held each July attracts some of the top midget clubs from Feb ruciry,«8 points as distant as Sarnia to Ottawa, and the two day affair is one of the sporting highlights' of the summer. There will be an election of officers and ail basebali enthusiasts in the area, are urged to, attend. The associa- tion like ail minor sports or- ganizations 15 constaaitly looking for help to carry out the many and varied duties needed to operate the pro- gramme.
