WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESOAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1974, PAGE 13 Brookliln Bylines To those who mnissed their chance to try out the square dancing last Wednesday, then I have some good news for you. The Brooklin Square Dance Club called to explain that they catçr for shift workers etc., and that they are having two more beginners nights..tonight and next Wednesday, 2th November. Both sessions will bc held at the Oddfellows Hall, Bagot Street, Brooklin, at 8:15 p.m. How often does one get a second chance, neyer mind a third! So go along and try out somne good healthy fun. The 2nd Brooklin Cub Pack, who meet regularly at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday evening at Meadowcrest school, recently spent a weekend at Camp Samac. Eleven boys enjoyed themselves doing compass work and building obstacles -courses as well as just learning how to get on with each other. On the Sunday famnilies and friends watched as Tony Scheuffler, Danny Forbes, Paul Van Schyndle and John Verrydt were invested ...for the uninformed like myseif - becamne full members of the cub pack. Plans are being made to take the boys to see the Studio Lab Players presentation of Treasure Island, to be held on December 8th at the R.S. McLaughlin school. A note to mothers of pupils at Meadow Crest Public School, when it rains, please give the chldren and the Safety Patrol students enough room to cross the road safely. At the moment whenever it rains certain mothers park so near the school..and even on top of the crossing itsell..that the children are having a hard time to see across t.he road. By trying to save your child from getting a littie wet, you may be the cause of some other child Peing knocked down. So try and restrain your overprotective instincts..at the most you'Il only have a bad cold to live with. So you enjoy an Auction THIS WEEKS PATTERN'S BY AUOREY LANE Sale? Then put a ring around BROWN'S Saturday November 23rd. Because on that day at the Community Centre in Brooklin Dr. Watt will be here with his last auction for '74. It starts at il a.m. and there will bc various consigrnents of antiques and collectable item going under the hammer for you to bid on. Dr. Watt's Auctions are well known and he has a large following of bargain hunters that corne from miles away... so you had better be there right at the start to make sure that you get a seat. Those busy ladies of the Legion Auxillary will be there once again to serve refreshments ... s ail in al it promises to be quite a good event. 50 some dog owners are at it again! Don't you tire- some people realize that flot everyone loves your animaIs (to be honest 1 don't think you love them either, other- wise you'd take better care of them!) If you think so much of your beloved Fido, then keep him on your own property and pick up his beloved mess yourself. The strange part is that you are probablythe ones who screamn blue murder (and other things!) at the Humane Society when it upholds the law and impounds these wandering nuisances. I've always thought it a pity that it wasn't the owners that were impounded. But 've news for you owners, which l'm sure will delight many people including those law abiding dog owners. November 1 Sth sees the enforcement of this by-law with a ticketing system that is already in use in Ajax and Pickering. You can be caught on two counts.... (A) if you own and harbor an unlicenced dog, (B) for allowing a dog to run at large. Bither count will cost you $ 10.00..maybe $20.00 if you get caught on both..and you will have seven days in which to pay. After seven days you will be charged and taken to court..maximum fine $50.00. And dont think that because Fido has been too smart upto now to be impounded, that you are safe. He won't have to be impounded..just seen and- reported! From now on it is the owner and not the dog that is going suffer and'about time too. Though in ail fairness as regards to the first part of the ticket, 1 feel that the Town of Whit- by should do something about its dog licences. It does not seemn fair that a licence runs from January to December* and that even if you licence your animal in November you stili have to pay the same as the guy who licences in Januar ry. It certainly doesn't encourage honesty and 1 wouldi't have thought that it would take too much trouble to reorganize the system. But in ahl in al, the next few weeks should hold a few shocks in store for some people. After hearing about the West Lynde Tenant Association, 1 have the feeling that some of North Warders should take a leaf out of their book..you have to admit that they are organized and are preparing themselves for the future. They are flexing their muscles and showing Council that they won't sit and wait around for things to happen. It seems to me that many new subdivisions do this and seem to get far more than older areas of the same town. Either you say that 'they are too pushy and should wait their turn, or you have to admit that they have the right ideas. One thing tho'. If as they say, they are planning to run for counicil, then the older areas had better provide them with some stiff opposition..or they will out number and there- fore out vote them on many decisions to the latters' detrimrent. Perhaps if we put as much energy into fighting for our community instead of trying to burn* it down, like some idiots..young and old!...did last week, we might get somewhere. Well I guess that I've covered ail the information that I've received in the Iast week. I've already heard of one dance for New Year's Eve..down in Whitby..anyone started planning up here yet? Caîl 655-3750 with any plans if you have any. See you next week.
