As the sign says on Jeffrey Street, fun day in West Lynde is June 16th at 2:00 p.n. and the committee met to Out the final touches on the program. As one of the two people who have planned the games and races, Dave Smith of Calais Street is the other, I am still troubled by the apparent lack of help. So come on, pitch in. To end this part of the colunn on a very serious note, there are those who are complaining about the fun day being held in Central Park. A community association must allow for differing opinions so to those who object, I say attend the next general meeting on June 13th and voice your objçctions in an open forum for ail to hear. It promises to be a "biggie" so plan to be there. If it happens therefore that you have questions about your assessment tonorrow night will give you the oppor- tunity for answers. These "jelly beans" make it most uncomfortable for thase who live near these areas, for people who walk there, and for the kids who play there. So to the "yoyos" who ride their motorbikes, and snow- mobiles, I say find a better place so that we all can enjoy our parks. Councillor Don Lovelock took time to call this week, with some in- formation that will interest many people in this area. The capital budget lias been passed by Council and $200,000 lias been allowed for the much needed recreational facilities up here in thé North Ward. And, by the time you are reading this, the Council should have passed the necessary by-law that will allow them to spend the money. And what will we be getting with all this money? A much needed park for the Ashburn-Myrtle area for a start. And then the Brooklin Arena is to have improved facilities inside; and outside, the parking lot is to be paved. And tennis fans - don't give up hope! You should be heading for the old School before too long. The pad is to be made into tennis courts - just as soon as they pass that by-law. But the main spending will be on the swimming pool. Oh yes, we arc getting one. Not this year unfortunately, but we should have it for next year. Planners please note - you have twelve months notice! Don't wait till the '75 heatwave to start on the pool. Let's have some action this summer in the way of plans etc. - then we'll have high hopes that next summer we'll really be in the swim! Councillor Lovelock also pointed out that since we becane part of Durham Region, County roads are not con- trolled by the Town - they are now the Region's affair. So you protesters of poor roads please note - bug the Regional Council regarding County Roads. but the concession roads are still the Town of Whitby's affair. For those road users who zoom up to Myrtle - watch out! Those 800 yards south of South Myrtle are now down from 60 mph to 40 mph. You've been warned! • Many people other than those whose children attend St. Leo's Seperate School in Brooklin, know of Mr. AI Oerton. In the years that he has served as principal of the school he has participated, and encouraged the children to do like- wise, in comniunity affairs. He is leaving the school at the end of the term, and to honour the work he has done the families of the school are holding a social picnic and present- ation on Friday, 14th of June. It will be held at the school between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. Past students and their fam- ilies are invited to attend, bringing with them their own picnic lunch. I've had quite a few calls on the subject - most people in favour of stiffer penalties for the culprits.
