Lake Vista defeated Oshawa Hack- ers 30 - 27 in a very close game to win the "B" divis- ion Leadership. The games marked the completion of the first series of team competition. Each team has played against al the other teams in their div- ision. The second series has now started with six teamns competing in A & B divisions. The two top teams in B section have moved up to A for this series and the two bottoni teams in A will coin- pete in B section to add more to the competition level. A third series of gamnes wil follow with final play- offs for the Dupont and Dun- lop Trophies, to 6e held in April. The competition bas been very close in each division. HoId Annual Meeting President of the Whitby Minor Basebail Assoc., Gordon Hanna bas announced that the association wiil hold its sixth annual meeting on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Municipal Building on Dundas Street, West, getting underway at 1:30 p.m. The Council Chambers will be the setting for the important meeting which will launch the W.M.B.A. on its sixth season. Formed in 1969, the registration was 335 in -the first year of operation with twenty ýclubs playing in Tyke and Pee-Wee House Leagues and five clubs nepresenting Whitby in the Eastern Ontario Basebail Association. Since that tinie there has been a steady upward clumb in the number of boys playing organized basebali with the registration nearly doubled to 600 boys for the 1973 season. A Tee-Bal -league bas been openating for the past two summers and a highly successful Bantam gnoup has been added to the House League Divisions. TheW.M.B.A. had 36 clubs in- 1973 with an eight. teani T. e-Bail loop, a ten teamn Tyke circuit, and ei'gbt club Pee-Wee league, and a six club .Bautai -graggIch ipçu4,ieçp frçom . Oshawa. Whitby was represented by clubs at Tyke, Pee-Wee, Bantani Midget and Junior levels in the E.O.B.A., with the K of C Tyke club Eastern Ontario champions and eventual pro- vincial titleists. The season extended froin lune 6th which was officially proclaimed "Minor Basebal Day in The Town of Whitby", through to September with clubs playing in ail areas of Whitby. Whitby clubs played in tournaments in Hamilton, Belle- ville, Niagara Falls, . Guelph, Colingwoo dand Th orold and a highlight of the season was a visit late in the year by the Longueuil Expos who played an exhibition series with The Legionaire Pee-Wees, an e.-ýchange which bas taken place many times between various sporting groups of the two communities, officiaily and unofficiaily. The outstanding success of the first combined effort of the Whitby Minor Baseball Assoc. and the Oshawa Legion Basebaîl Assoc. in joining forces to host a midget tournament in 1972 was -repeated again last season when the two groups held their second tourney in Juty. The affair has quickly gained recognition as one of the best organized and conducted tournaments in Ontario, and the spirit of co-operation between the two groups should 6e an examiile to aIl sporting organizations. This spirit was demn- onstrated in September when the Oshawa Legionaire Ban- tains were washed out of an important game in iheir march to the Ontario crown. With- Kinsmen Stadium unplayable the Whitby Assoc. dug in and got the field at Peel Park irer playable condition for their Oshawa neighbouts and the series was able to go on. Post season activity for the W.M.B.A. saw a highly successful Awards Day in October and the recent testim- onial banquet to the K of C club for their triumph. The annual meeting will hear reports from Pres. Hanna, Registrar Gerald Robinson, Tres. Bill Puchalski, Convenons Winston Muschett, Penny Stover, Bill Watters, Mike Pageau and Mike McArthur. Henry St. High, No. 1 won out in the consolation series defeating Whitby Sen- ior No. 2 and Dr. R. Thornton Schools. The Whitby Y inter- sehool Volleyball Tournani- ents have become a major prograrn interest among the, Whitby sehools. The teains are made up of approx.-ten players of whomn at Ieast 4 mustbe girls and the enthus- iasmn and competition runs high.
