4 ~ MOTORINGi wi*th Mike Burgess :1 On October 14, 25 Slalom competitors from' Ontario travelled to Dtroit Michigan to compete in the Sth Annual Great Lakes Challenge Gymkhana. The event Was held at the Pine Knob, Ski Resort outside Pontiac Michigan on a lot measuring 1210 feet by 5S0Ofeet! 90 DAYS SAM .For many of us, this was our second encounter with the American competitors and style of event and to say we had learned from last year's 'experience would be an understatement!! Ontario took home four 1 st place troph- ies and two second place trophies with the remaining competitors securing many 3rd and 4tb positions. The Oshawa Miotor Sport Club accounted for 12 of the Canadian entries and ail members gave their best perfornm- ance and placed very high in their classes. Driving the Team ERA Datsun Sedan, Jeff Christie blistered bis way around the course recording a time, of 50.3 seconds to win first place' in the D/Prepared Class. Ruth HalIiday then took over the. Team ERA Datsun and put on a tremendous display of driving ability to record a time of 51.5 seconds, good enough to wrap up 2nd place in Ladies/D, Class.
