Some aspects featured each week wiIl be fire cail summaries, special happenings within the Department and, poses permitting, perhaps a few candid photographs of the exciting action of the W.F.D. The W.F.D. responded to the following calis from October 1 2th to October 1 8th. October 12th at 11: 30 a.m., faulty coleman stove ignited rug at 22 Eastbourne Beach. October 13th at 7:21 a.m., check smell of gas at 141 Hillcrest Drive. At 12:11 p.m., rescue oeil at 311 Gýarrard Road. At 12:56 p.m., rescue oeil at 50 Ferguson Avenue. October l6th at 6:46 p.m., garage fire at 1022 King Street. October 1 7th at 5i43 p.m., rubbish fire at industrial minerais on Harbour Street. October l8th at 4:15 p.m., wash down on Dundas Street East. &iturday aftemnoon, October 1 3th, was the scene of an' exciting, fun-filled basebali game at Centennial Park. The match featured the Whitby Fire Department Members coming up against the heaviiy favoured and powerful Whitby Police Department. The outcome produced a victory for the Police Squad as they ran up a 22-6 score against their opponents. Big hitters in the game were ail the players on both teams, but the Police managed to hit the bail more times and a littie bit further than the Firefighters, in their efforts to preserve the win. Appreciation night followed, the basebali game on Saturday evening. This developed into a gala event, for the 190 persons in attendance.. Among those present were Mayor Des Newman,Region- ai, Councillors Gerry Emm and John Goodwin, Councillors Jin Gartshore and Don Lovelock, and Ontario Fire Marshall representative Norm Atkin. The presence of a large majority of Fire Department and Police personnel added tremendously to the success of the evening. Fire Chief Ed Crouch fulfilled as Master of Ceremonies and was assisted by Mayor Newman, Councillor Emm, Mr. Atkin, and Deputy Fire Chief Warren Mowet in the Leo's Separate School in Brooklin. Firefighters gave an excellent demonstration for the students and teachers in attendance. Exhibiting the techniques required to operate the aerial was an important part of the program.
