WHITBY FREE PRESS, THURSDAY, AUGUST 9, 1973, PAGE 3 Whitby Yacht Cub To Host 1973 World Championship The 1973 Thunderbird World Championships will be held at Whitby, August 19- 24 inclusive. The event will be organized by T-hunderbird Fleets 10 and 26 and will be hosted by the Whitby Yacht Club. Twenty - three boats have been entered in the Champ- ionships, with some compet- itors trailing their boats from as far away as Victoria BC, and Washington state in the The first World's Champ- ionships for Thunderbirds', a twenty - six foot racing sloop, was held about seven years ago in Seattle. Since then, World Championships have been held in San Diego, California, Sydney, Australia and Victoria, B.C. Current world champion, John Mal- leson of Victoria will be at the 1973 event to defend his title. The races will be held over a four - day period, two races ,on Monday, August 20, two races on Tuesday, two on Thursday and one on Friday morning. Wednesday is a rest day. A special boat is to be provided for the press and results will be available on a daily basis from the Rothman's Special Events Caravan which is the official communications cen- tre for the Championships.
