PAGE 2, THURSDAY, AUGUST 9, 1973, WHITBY FREE PRESS Tlit FOUR SEASONSNAUEPR I43EWDRjLD PR6E.RNT On a recent sunny Sunday morning, 1 found myseif in my old jalopy plodding along the '401" westbound heading towards Freelton, a littie village just north of Hamilton. Until the last couple of years Freelton was one of those little villages you neyer heard of unless you travelled Hiwy 6 betweefl Hamiltonl and Guelph and didn't blink your eyes. Now every summer, Freelton cornes into the limnelight interiiatioflally as the home of the Miss Nude World Pageant. This unique beauty contest attracts entrants from as far away places as California, New York, New Jersey, Washington, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. Not to mention media represefitatives from ail the major TV networks, radio stations, wire services, leading publications and spectators in the thousands. Having heard so much about this annual contest from niy colleagues in the media, my curiosity got the better of me and 1 decided to (un-) cover the Miss Nude World Pageant first hand. So it was with mixed emotions 1 drove somewhat hesitantly towards Freelton. 1 was alone because the management of the Four Seasons Nature Resort where the Pageant is held is very strict about media accreditation and will only allow one represeritative from each accred- ited media. With no moral support 1 was beginning to have second thoughts about whether 1 would lose my nerve and decide at the last minute NOT to disrobe and put myself on exhibition for the thousands of waiting eyes or whether MY eyes might have problems deciding where to look or more specifically where NOT to look. Anyway, before 1 really realized where 1 was (I'm not1 at my best that early "in the morning at the best of times) 1 found myseif at a gate at. the end, of a gravel road producing my press pass and being ushered through THE GATES. The Four Seasons Nature Resort's first impression on me was that it reminded me of some sort of combinat- ion of my younger days at camp, a resort on a lake in Muskoka, and a private park near Whitby. Everything was calm, peaceful, and a very relaxed atmosphere prevaiied. Everything and- everybody looked perfectly normal, you might even say natural! There were campers spread around the grounds, some in trailers, some in campers and some in tents. The nudists were showing signs of campers normal morning activity, some looking bleary eyed trying to go about the morning breakfast duties, others just lounging, soaking up the morning sunshine. The dress was very casual, some were, some were not. Some had 'street dress,' some girls had bottoms on but no tops, others wore WE HAVE MOVED T[he Wbitby Free Pregs is no longer located at the old Brock Street South location. No sexual atmosphere existed, neither did one feel that one was' surrounded by exhibitionists, because nobody did anything different. It was just like being at a camping spot anywhere except most of the people were either nude or semi - nude. After ail, what is more natural than nudity? What does no one body have, that another doesn't? People wear clothes, but everybody KNOWS what is underneath, so really what is being hidden except their vanity? Possibly because of my broad - minded nature, and past exposure in figure photography to nudity where nudity is beautiful and flot sexual, it didn't take long for me to feel at ease, and get into the swing of things. Aside from the tension caused occasionally by the strict security and the frequent checks of press bearing cameras which otherwise are strictly 'verboten,' the staff and guests did a fairiy good job of making newcomers feel welconme. fllecc(ntestants, thirty - three in ail, made their first appearance inside the press lounge for a rehiearsal prior to the 2 p.m. schieduled start. Most of the entrants at this time were nude, with the exception of one who was fuilly dressed' in shorts and halter, one who wore just a T - shirt and a couple of others in just shorts. Generally speaking they looked quite relaxed, not seemling to have any of the usuial butterfiies and seemed for the most part to be enjoying themselves. Situated ini a beautiful setting downhill from the main club house is a man made lake with a mock take boat parked just off the shore which is the location of the festivities. The lake boat, complete with a midship paddle wheel, was attractively decorated and featured a shiplong stage with a runway in the centre extending onto the shore, night lights and a sound systerw At 2 p.m. the entertainment got underway which 1 found out later was to run non - stop into the evening. A group of dancers clad in 'roaring twenties' style outfits, a group of musicians, and a couple of guest singers filled the gaps between appearances by the contestants. Most of the entrants were quite attractive with nice smiles, cute faces, good figures, and ail over tans. A large number of entrants from Quebec, seven in ail, drew a lot of applause from a large number os supporters from La Belle Province. Miss Nude Ontario, Mrs. Nadia Bottai of Collingwood, Ont., and Miss Nude U.S.A., Miss Barbara Winters of Long Beach, Californiia were also quite popular.
