The double header week - end included the second last race in the World Manufaclurers Series, a Formula Super - Vee event and the third race in the fine race Can - Am package. The six hour endurance race was dominated by the super quick French Matra - Simca 670 Spyder. These lithe prototype racers which this year have won four of the nine races run, with the balance going to Ferrari, Porsche and Mirage, were neyer really challenged afler the fifteenth lap, when the Pescarolo Larousse Matro caplured the lead and held on for the win. The Ferrari 312 P's managed to finish second and third but they mere two and three laps off the leaders. Pescarolo and Larousse have taken every viclory this year for Matra. Also seen aI the Glen were the new Porsche Carrera long îailed plolotypes, drived by Mark Donohue and George Foilmer and Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood. lhe eventual finishing position for these was Donohue - Folîmer sixth, Gregg - Hiaywood seventh. Mo Carter and Tony De Lorenzo placed Ienth in the Carter Camaro. The rest of the top five finishers sbowed thal the Porsche parade is definiîely not a certainly, with David Hobbs second in his McLaren M20 496 Chevy, followed by the Porsches of Jody Schicter and tCharlie Kemp, followed by John Cannon in a McLaren M8F 494 Cbevy. Hobbs was a lap ahead of both Schickter and Kemp. Defending champion George Foîlmer finished Iwentieth due 10 a broken turbo charger, and Canadian John Cordts who sufféred a lyre punclure in the first heat, was ulegaîed 10 nîneteenth when his engine let go during the second heal.
