Photo Sport News Service With Peter Mason, Presîdent of B.F. Goodrich Canada, flagging the cars away on their pace lap, the first BF. Goodrich Sundown Endurance Race got underway here at seven o'clock. In the field of over thirty cars was everything from an almost stock Puegot 204 to the elite Porche Carreras which have been dominating so many racing events this year. Canadian Mo Carter co - driving a 427 Corvette with Bill Adams of Burlington jumped into an early lead followed by the Porche 911 S of Ludwig Heimrath and Craig Hill and a Porche prototype. The race centered around these three until Bill Adams car suffered a broken crankshaft and the 911IS of Heimrath and Hill went on to victory. The race was halted at 8:34 when Willie Gobbells got his Porche 911 S in trouble in the oil at corner two aiid eventually rolled it over in the chute just past turn four, fortunatly nothing other than Willie's pride wams injured and the green fiag came out again at 9:20. Froni then on il was an easy drive for Craig and Ludwig who avcraged 84.84 miles per hour to set a new Sundown Record of 207 laps or 509.013 miles! The second place car was the BF. Goodrich Porche Carrera RSR of Harry and Klaus Bytzek, who finished 203 laps on their 50 series radial T/A tires. This proved once again that B.F. Goodrich's T/A series street tire is pretty hard to beat, on the track --s well as off. The feature event Sunday was of course' the 7SOcc Canadian Grand Prix of Motor Cycles. and once again Canadian Yvon Du Hamel came away with al l e honours on his 750cc Kawasaki. Yvon, who lias been racing since 1963 when he became Canada's number one plate holder in dirt îrack racing, is possibly the best road racer ini North America, baving won about every major motorcycle event in Canada ,and many in the USA. His win Sunday came after he passed early leader Kurt Liebman from New Jersey on a 750 Honda. Once ini the lead the 33 year old French Canadian was neyer challenged. Yvon was flot to retain his 5OOcc tille won here last year however as Jim Allen of Angus, Ontario, riding a Yamnaha 350cc racer became the new SOOcc champ. In the ever popular sidecar event, Murray Brown and Allan King on a Kawasaki unit fought a race long duel with John and Arthur Dailey from Scarborough to take the win. The Dailey racer was Norton powered. Monday morning promised a hot sunny day for the fourth race in the Player's Challenge series, and il fulfilled the debt with bright suni and temperatures in the high eighties for the entire race. Allan Lader of Gresham, Oregon took ample advantage of the weather to score his third win in this years series. Lader who drove his Brabham BT40 at an average of 104.923 mph to win the race, led from fiag to fiag. As always however the fans were treated to some superb driving by some of Nor.th Americas besp;t. helped his times and thal he really didn't think that he was going that quickly! Quickly or nul, the race was one of the most exciting seen at Mosport this year and proved the perfect wrap up to a great Dominion to Independence Day Sprints Week - End.
