General Manager Robert Enright said that the new 36,000 square foot facility would encourage expanded activity in both domestic and foreign markets. As major advantages of the new site, he noted: the actual design of the facility, it s landscaped setting and floor space as significant factors in meeting continuing high standards of productivity, efficiency and "employee well- being." Mr., Enright also pointed out as an advantage "the leadership, co-operation and goodwill of a municip- ality that is keenly sensitive to the priorities of controlled and useful business development." Another advantage he said was the plant's location near major transportation routes and within Whitby's "desirable community en- vironment." Mayor Des Newman welcomed the management and staff of ITT Cannon to Whitby and expressed appreciation to the company for their decision to establish the Cannon Electric operation here, adding that he hoped it would be a nucleus of many ITT enterprises in Whitby. Whitby Development Commissioner Wes Winters also welcomed the company and expressed his thanks for the co-operation and good relations he has had with the management of ITT Cannon. ITT Cannon Electric President, James Von Harz of alifornia, James Voi Santa Ana, California, Mr. Enright and Mayor Newman performed the traditional ribbon - cutting ceremony that formally launched the structure on its "new community friendship." Plans to relocate to Whitby from the former ITT Cannon site in North York were disclosed last October at which time Mayor Newman said that "another major manufacturing company has recognized the many advan- tages of Whitby's Industrial Park, and the advantages of the community as a whole." This new plant employs about 140 persons presently and Mr. Enright says that if the market remains the same this number will be increased. Continued page 3 I MUE TitWh8(i I I Ontaro Ladies' College Alumni Forming New Chapter The former students of the Ontario Ladies College living in the Whitby - Oshawa - Pickering - Bowmanville area are forming a new branch of the Alumnae. The Castle Chapter known as the original or Parent Chapter of the Ontario Ladies College is the home chapter and consists of members who live in the area and who are former students and graduates of the Ontario Ladies College, Whitby. The Castle Chapter members were guests of the former students, who are organizing the newest branch of the Alumnae, at a get acquainted evening held in the Common Room of the College last week. During the evening Mrs. Stanley Osborne of Oshawa, the wife of the former princi- pal of the Ontario Ladies College showed pictures of highlights of the College activities. There were scenes of the visit of the former Lt. Governor of Ontario, the Hon. Mr. Briegthup whose five sisters were former students of the College. Mrs. Russell Collins, Whitby, president of the Castle Chapter said she was glad to see and get acquainted with the new members of the Alumnae Association. She. expressed pleasure at the preparations being made by the organizing group for the Ontario Ladies College Cent- ennial year celebrations.
