Newton had been Charter Chef Squire of the Whitby Columbian Squires, a junior brandi of tbe Knigbts of Colum. bus, during Mr. Canzi's tenure of office as Grand Knight. With Mr. Canzi on the stage to make the presentation were His Excellency, Archbi- shop Pbilip F. Pocock and the Pastor of St. John's Church,, Father Leo J. Austin. The na- ture of the presentation to Father Newton was a memento from the Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Dr. John W. McDevitt of New Haven, Connec- icut. The memento was a replica of a communion cup .presented to the fam- ily of the late president of the United States, John F. Kennedy by the Fourth Degree Knigbts of Columbus., Mr. Canzi was to have made the presentation on bebaîf of the Supreme Knight but stated that in view of the memento being a chalice he thought that it would be fitting if His Excellency, the Arcli- bishop would do the honours. Twenty-seven year old Father Newton bas been doing parisb work for the Iast year at Trans- figuration Parish in Wes- ton and will be assigned to a parish following his ordination by the Arcli- bishop of Toronto. Special guests at the ordination ceremony in- cluded Monsignor Paul Dwyer of Osbawa, Mayor Desmond Newman, for- mer member of council Judge Hugh O'Connell and former MP Mike Starr.
