Page 12, Thursday, August 3, 1972e, WHITE3Y FREE PRESS .Sports. MOTORINO with Mike Burgess The summer generai meeting of the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs Inc. w as h e i d 1last weekend in Toronto. C. A. S. C., the governing body for motorsport in Canada, is operated and control led by member clubs across Canada. As the ONLY recognized car club in our area (between Toronto and Peterborough) is Oshawa MotorSpor t Club Inc.; members of this club at- tended to voice their views and to vote - on proposed changes for the future. Rai1l1y, Ra ce, and Soio-Events workshops were conducted with raily- i s ts, race drivers, and solo-events participants representing t hei1r own speciai ties. Expendlitureis Dowm Prior to the general meeting, 1 at- tended an "Administration Workshop"f where the C. A. S. C. budget for 1 973 w as presen ted and approved. 1it was interesting to note that despite rising costs, C. A. S. C. 's expenditures are going down .... i guess that's the dif- ference between operating a business for profit and operating a sport because you're anenthusiast . 0 a the point was real ly brought home when the member cl1u bs approved an increasei n the ir levies Oin other words, wllligly pay- J n g o u t more money to support the sport). 1 real ly don't want to harp on money (or the lack of it), but itts a rare and beautiful thing to flnd people who are NOTjustdoing thlngs for the 'almlghty dollar'. For examplemosthundred mile rallies organized by C. A. S. C. recog- niz e d clubs only carry an admission price of two ^to three dollars, not five a s c h ar ged by some 'fly-by-night' g ro u ps. i know, i competed in over thirty of them in the last year. SikIII tout A Regional Championship Driving j Ski 1il Test, actually it was a slalom t race, washeld last Sunday in Toronto and the full price for entry was only three dollars. Before 1 get off on a negativistic tangent and start writing about groups who caîl themselves 'car » clubs' and are giving the spork-a 'bad name',l'I try to be a littie more posi- tive and give you a brief report on the Regional Championship D. S. T. just referred to. 'MadManoeuvers' was the name given to the event organized by North TorontoMotor Club, and aptl yso. Some twenty-odd 1 o c a 1 entrants were set- back somewhat by a course that covered threeof York University' s parking lots, took fifteen minutes to walk, and re- quireda 'E-obby Fisher' mind to remem- ber! (N.T.M.C. probabl1y got the chess-master to lay out the course).
