Attersley, whohashad to attend late YMCA. with h I s councillor colleagues, has in t he past 4 of hl1 s 6 months on councîl, found time to h e ad an 8-man committee made up of YMCA d i r ectors to become in volved in detailed prel Iminary plan- ning of the pool project besides. No t as sophisticated as some might prefer, projectplanscall for construc- tion of a 25 by 42 foot pool simil ar to the Oshawa Centennial Pool, with a shallow tot-pool for small children, the YMCA project could, gratifyingly, begin con- struction as soon as early 1973, and be real ized by the middle of that same year. Upon completion, the swimming pool Al though Bob Attersliy isn't the first politician to talk seriously about an in- door swimning pool, he is the. first, for ail appearances, to have done something concrete about it. N o r has the f or'm er "Dunny " been b 1 o wing his own horn on spearheading the swimming pool project. In a state- ment to another newspaper this week he said he simply felt the pool is the most needed facility in the town. This k i n d of unpretentious attitude coul d do m u c h for the tattered faith of t h e restle-ss public in our local poltiti- c o un c il and commi ttee sessions along wouldbecontrolled and operated by the cians. . . Sirs; This letter is i n tended to clear up some of the ai- legations mention- ed in "a very dis- gusted fan's" let- ter of last week. The Attersley T i r e team refer- red to in the letter w as picked the same way the other seven teams w e r e. They have had an excellent coach and assis- tant coach who deserve much bet- ter than the slan- der they have rec- eived all year from angry parents. AI 1 boys on this team have learned how to play as a "teamLl by passing and checking and playing their pos- itions properly. This has been ac- comp1ished by bo th coaches and par- e n t s who are in- terested enough to get the boys to their Iloccasional"i practices, and to stay and also sup- port all their gam- es, which I am sure you will a- gree gives the boy s encourage- ment for playing. i mentioned "oc- c a s i o nal practi- c e s " because the only extra ice time this team has had ri'L amo is on Sunday mor- ni ng from 7 to 8 a. m. There have been several times that the ice has been offered to other teams, but they have not tak- en advantage of i t . A Il1 t he boys who turnout for t h i s practice are paying $1 per boy per practice. In regards to the a I eged pract ices three times on F r i d a y and Sat- urday, the reason this assumption would have been made is thatMr. M i 1 lette has been k ind enough to lend hisAttersley Tire sweaters to other teamsto use. This was done three times on a Friday and twiceon a Saturday. No one e v e n bothered to check out which players were wear ing the sweaters. Another point I wish to make is that the team tra- ded three of their pl ayerswhen par- ents were com- pl aining that they were too strong a team, and each time the new boys w e received have been taught posit- ion playing hockey b y t h e coach, so the team continued to win. I f records were checked, it could b e proved that on theAttersley Tire PeeWee team, all the boys can score and have done so this year, but on the other teams, there are only 2 or 3 boys who do all the scoring for their teams. This point alone proves the value of team playing. When the oppor t unity of a goal presents it- self, the player can make the most of it. I trust this will c I e a r up som e of the misunderstan- ding in las-t week's letter, and I hope if he or she writes again, they get t h e i r facts stra- ight.
