THE FIAT 124 + 124 The Fýiat 124+124Regional Champion- ship Rally held last Saturday and Sun- d ay drew forty-three of the best raliy crews including entrants from the U. S. A. For thefifth year, the organizers of t h i s event have to be commended for a job welldone. In a rally of this size and status, it's not easy to look after more than one hundred people spread around the countryside, especially in areas like L e a skdale and Milibrook, where slip- p e r y r o ad s w e re making the driving treacherous. Due to a recent snowfall, it seemed that the roads were either icy ormuddy, but despite ail this, and brisk averagespeeds (although quite reason- able) there were no serious mishaps. Unable to enter because of mechanical problems, I drove a "back-up car' for the only local entrant, George Gilroy. George was doing quite weli in his first championship event, until his n av i g ator, Stu Brear , ran into navi- gationai difficul ties, and was unable to flIn ish the r ali y. THE 'TALL PINES RALLY This weekend Maple Leaf Rally Club hosts a 550 mile National Championship E v ent c alled the "Tall Pines Rally". This combined rally and slalom race is sponsored by the Township of Chingua- cousy , and besides being a great fun ev ent, it could prove to be quite prof- i t a b I e. Cash awards and point money s h o ul d take the purse over the $I1, 000 mark, so it will certainly be well worth e n t e r i ng.
