She'and her husband Charles Elliott, lived on Winchester Road here for many years. Mrs. Elliott was the local correspondent for the "Whitby Gazette" and later for the "Oshawa Times. She w a s the secretary- treasurer for the Womens' Institute Brook- i n H o r t i c ultural Society and an active m em be r of the Brooklin United Church, being one of the Alto singers for the Sen- ior choir. Horticultural Society Landscapes Memorial TheBrooklin Horticultural Society has announced plans for landscapingBrooklin's only War Memorial, the recently renovated Memorial Arena. The addition vvhich was built on the fr on t of the original building has relocated the main entrance to the east s i de , di rectly off the parking lot. Since the new layout excludes entry direct from the street, a parkette area has been crea- ted immediately in front of the arena. The Brookl in Horticultural Society has decided to develop this area as a memorial garden. Plans include foundation plantings next to the new addition as well as several new flower beds in the open lawn area. In ad- dition, a number of deciduous trees are to be planted to compliment those already on the site. The raised flower bed closest to the road has been designed to include let- teringdesignatingthearea as the Brooklin Memorial. qualified to carry the Quality Chekd, Extras earned it for Ideal. Extra care. Extra effort. Extra quality. You see, the Quality Chekd people are as particu- lar as their name implies. They are an international group of more than 100 independent dairies dedicated to extra quality. And they look for the same dedication in new members. Like Ideal. Ideal has been producing extra quality dairy pro- ducts for 40 years. Testing. Re-testing. Constantly im- proving. To meet their own high standards over and above those of the government. The dairy thus earned the right to take the final tests given by the Quality Chekd Dairy Products Association: 38 extra "special exams" for everything from cows to cartons. Ideal passed with honours. They'll be undergoing the same tests periodically. And submitting samples regularly to the Quality Chekd testing laboratories. To insure extra quality. Preliminary plans for this project were firstpresented to the Whitby Arena Board in e a r ly September. Since that time, the society has received approval of scale d r aw i n gs from a committee of the Board and f rom the recreation director of the Town of Whitby. The plans were drawn up by s o c iety members at no cost. The maj- o r i t y of the 1 a b o ur is being supplied by s o c i e t y members also to keep costs to a minimum. Since the society received only 50% of the requested 1971 municipal grant, funds are not available to complete phase one this fa I1 as was original ly hoped. In order to c o m p 1 e t e as much of the landscaping as p o s s i ble, it has been decided to request donations from the public as personal living memorials. Donations in any amount will be appreciated. Please cal1 Cyril Wick at 655- 4233 for further information, or donations may be sent to Brooklin Horticulture Soci- e ty , Po st.Office Box 164, Whitby, Ont- ario. Ail donations will be acknowledged. Doners wishing to remain anonymous may also do so.
