Synonomous with the dapper-dress of the late twenties and early thirties era, the day of the pin striped suit and splashy red lapel carnation, the spat if fashion leaders have their way, will find its way back in window displays of modern shoe shops. In tracing back the heydey of the spat, we were told by Whitby old tim- ASTROLOGY AS I * * SEE IT by Astrologer Ed Cheetham Signs of the Zodiac lthasbeensuggested I wri te some- thing inny column this week about the signs of the Zodiac, but since there a r e twelve signs, o n e cannot cover them all in one issue of this paper. In the first place, the signs cor- respond to theshape ofawheel with the four cardinal signs: Aries, Cancer, LibraandCapricornrelatingtotherim of the wheel, or that part of the wheel w h i ch c arres us over the road, or on the other hand, can run us into the ditch. These are the signs who are of- ten the headsof organizationsor move- ments. Often this depends on the time of the day one is born, as other signs or people born therein, may have sev- e r a 1 planets in cardinal signs, a n d these often influence them to become their own employers or leaders. Fixed Signs The second group: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius are the fixed signs. The third group is known as the mutable signs and these are the signs THE ers that spats were worn even before the roaring '20's. Still others told us that they have never gone out. Rumour has i t that a Brooklin doctor, now re- tired , has worn spats all his life. The spat, as we know it was prob- ably derived from the military "spat- terhose", which evolved, says Coll- ier's Encyclopedia, through the whim roya lty. It seems that George Il of England (1683-1760) could not endure the sight of his soldierrs legs encased in ser- v i c eab le woolen stockings and knee b r e e c h e s , so he introduced "spat- Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces som et imes referred to as "double signs". So in the case of a woman with Mars (men in her life) in one of these s i g n s , it is often indicated as more than one marriage, whilst a man with the Moon in them, generally shows two or more women in his life. A Good Stretch For Leo The sun at the present time is pas- sing through the sign ofLeo, "the royal kinglysign", andmostof those born in this sign consider themselves to be lit- tlekingsorqueens. Leo'saregeneral- ly good natured, provided they're al- lowed to remain in the limelight, that is, but they also tend to be dictators if necessary. So those born from July 23 to August 4th are strictly Leo, whilst those in the next 10 degrees are often Sagittarius in g en e ral. Those from August 13 to August 23 have a lot of Aries in their make-ups. Perhaps we should dwell upon the important prospects for Leos these comingmonths.
