I bV MvwINm One of the architectural gems of dowmiown Wluitby la the Devereil block, on the west side of Brock St. S., wl"c was bufit and owned by an eady Whitby onnwctr named Thomas Devereil. Bufit in 1878, it consit of fIve stores. The odginal occupants were: Laing and Stewart, dry goods; J.S. Robertson, staionery; and E.J. Johnson, fumiture and undertaking. It is not know who occupied the two middle stores lu 1878. After Laing and Stewart (later C.F. Stewart's store), which is now the location of Donald Travel, closed in 1911, the store was talcen over by hardware merciaut Jacob Mclntyre.
