Hellyer, a former Liberal cabinet minister and Pro- gressive Conservative MP, founded the Canadian Ac- tion Party last year. FROM PAGE ONE a shouting match captured on television by the media entourage accompanying Manning. Not denying his Tory af- filiation, Gibbs insisted that his interrogation of Manning during a question and answer session with lo- cal high school students at Anderson Collegiate was of his own doing and that he had received no assistance from thé PC party. Following Manning's ap- pearance, Gibbs told the Free Press that he took ex- ception to Manning's sug- gestion that he had a prepared text with him when he asked a series of questions pertaining to Quebec. As Gibbs was expressing his comments, Ginny Den- sham, campaign manager for Whitby-Ajax candidate Bill Serjeantson, ap- proached the Free Press reporter and informed him that Gibbs was a "secre- tary on the PC board." When Gibbs replied that he no longer had any "ac- tive" involvement with the Tories, Serjeantson joined the discussion and words were exchanged. "The fact that I used to work for them has nothing to do with my questions," said Gibbs. As the argument became more heated, other stu- dents jumped in, along with Davies. Meanwhile, the scene caught the atten- tion of the national reporters. (Gibbs' questions dealt with Reform's position on Quebec and the party's perceived reputation of at- tracting some people with racist attitudes.). Gibbs, meanwhile, in- sisted that he has been to only one candidates' meet- ing at his school.
