Nic enjoyed life to the fullest. Having travelled much of the world, he was also an avid gardener and active member of the Oakville Horticultural Society. He gave much to the community, volunteering for over twenty years with Meals on Wheels and the St. John's therapy dog program. In earlier years he was a keen cricketer with the Oakville Cricket Club. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to The Ian Anderson House for their care and compassion. FOX, John Joseph Born June 30, 1924. Passed away at Sunrise Senior Living of Oakville on September 26, 2012. Will be missed by daughters Jill Topping (John), Pat Fox (Steve Chen) and Susan Liddy (Paul), grandchildren Erin O'Connell (Kevin), Trevor Topping (Amy Olver), Josh Topping, Scott Topping, Deacon Liddy (Rachel von Sturmer), Jacob Liddy (Karley Denoon), Melanie Fox-Chen and Kevin Fox-Chen and great-granddaughter Avery O'Connell. Predeceased by his wife Barbara Fox (Foreman) on March 7, 1977 and best friend and partner Roslyn Robinson on April 26, 2011. Brother of Sally Edwards (Moray deceased), Hugh Fox (Judy) and the late Margaret Lawson (Alan deceased) and Uncle to their children. John was brought up in the family home on Cortleigh Blvd. and graduated from U.T.S. He enlisted in WWII Artillery in 1943 which took him overseas for the duration of the war and upon his return began Engineering in Ajax and finished at U. of T. His happiest memory of this time was playing hockey for U. of T. John also played hockey for the U.T.S. hockey team. John started work as a Sales Agent for the Stauffer Dobbie Mill in Galt and then moved to Oakville to create Pine Tree Construction, building homes and commercial buildings in Oakville, including his own home. John had a love of sports and actively participated in hockey, golf, tennis, skiing and sailing. This spring, he received his 50 year pin from the Oakville Golf Club. John enjoyed the family cottage at Lee Farm on Lake Simcoe for over 60 years, the Oakville neighbourhood for over 50 years and Clear Lake for almost 30 years. John played tennis at the Ontario Racquet Club for many years. The family would like to thank John's family doctors, Dr. Arani and Dr. Keaton and Dr. Tozer and Dr. Gedalis of J.C.C. in Hamilton and the loving staff of Sunrise. If desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Celiac Association or Charity of your choice.
