We meet on Thursdays and thirty percent of our club members are female Rotarians. Our many projects include the support of our Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, installing home water filtering systems in homes and schools in India; collecting, sorting and distributing unsold clothing from retailers to supply good clothes to people who need a bit of help and dignity. Over the years we have helped: · Halton Woman's Place · Sleeping Children Across the World · A village in Bangladesh · Establish libraries in the Holy city of Varansi in India (World Literacy) Working with community partners we hold three major fundraising projects each year: · The Oakville Family Ribfest in June (Sheridan College) · The Dragon Boat Race in August (Halton Children's' Aid Foundation) · The Internet Auction in November (Rotary Club of Milton) ROTARY CLUB OF OAKVILLE (RCO) Since 1925 The Rotary Club of Oakville has developed a very solid foundation of serving the local community and supporting Rotary International projects worldwide. The Club has a long history of contributing to the Oakville Community as well as International Projects through grants from Rotary International and as partners with other Rotary Clubs. The Club is also involved as a partner with another charity to rehabilitate schools in the Dominican Republic. RCO's annual Golf Tournament and Million Dollar Hole-In-One Golf Tournament raises funds to help support local community initiatives. Major local projects in which we have been involved are: · Senior and Family Housing (Trafalgar Senior Homes, Oakville Community Homes and Woodside Mews) · Oakville Trafalgar Hospital · Ian Anderson House · Dreams Take Flight · Camp Enterprise ROTARY CLUB OF OAKVILLE WEST (RCOW) The Rotary Club of Oakville West received its charter in August 1985. With a mission to be Oakville's foremost organization for professional and business people bound by fellowship and a commitment to local, national and international service RCOW has grown and generated funds to support many community and global initiatives. RCOW's objective of "service above self " resonates through its many youth and community initiatives including bursaries and scholarships for local students. The Oakville Awards for Business Excellence, in partnership with the Oakville Chamber of Commerce, is RCOW's annual fundraiser to support this youth education initiative. The object of ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and its 1.2 million members would agree. In more than 34,000 clubs worldwide, you'll find members volunteering in communities at home and abroad to support education and job training, provide clean water, combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, and eradicate polio. Polio eradication has been Rotary's top priority for more than two decades. The international humanitarian service organization is a spearheading partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, along with the World Health Organization, the U.S. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, and UNICEF. Great progress has been made, and the incidence of polio infection has plunged from about 350,000 cases in 1988 to fewer than 1,000 reported cases in 2010. More than two billion children have been immunized in 122 countries, preventing five million cases of paralysis and 250,000 pediatric deaths.
