www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, September 21, 2012 · 28 Kyle Dooley and Picnicface ensemble hit silver screens The YouTube-sensation turned television sketch comedy show troupe known as Picnicface is hitting the big screen today (Friday). And Oakville's Kyle Dooley, as one of the eight Picnicface members, is right there in the thick of it. The comedy film, Roller Town, set in the 1980s, is about three friends trying to stop a local crime syndicate from turning their beloved roller rink into a video arcade. The film has already garnered some recognition. It picked up best film, best director and best writing at the 2012 Canadian Comedy Awards. Picnicface got its TV start after its YouTube video, titled Powerthirst, generated 24 million views. Soon after, the group's other videos began getting huge hits and it wasn't long before the eightsome ended up with a show on The Comedy Network. The show is called Picnicface. Piano concert at St. Paul's With a recently refurbished 1910 Steinway grand piano, St. Paul's United Church is inviting the community to come out and listen to the 100-year-old instrument in concert. The church is opening its 2012-13 concert season with a performance on Sunday (Sept. 23). The piano was gifted to the church by the family of Lady Edith Baillie in 2008 and was refurbished this past summer by Akos Prekop of Merriam Pianos. The piano technician was trained in Steinway's New York and Hamburg factories. The grand instrument will be played by pianists Shoshana Telner and Mary Ficzere, along with a performance by soprano Catherine Arcand-Pinette. The concert will take place at St. Paul's sanctuary and starts at 3:30 p.m. The church is located at 454 Rebecca St. Tickets cost $15 Fun around town this weekend for adults and $5 for children under five. Tickets are available at the door or by calling the church office at 905-845-3427. Photography at Joshua Creek Photography drew them together. Now, a group of 10 artists is showcasing what they have been able to capture a colourful kaleidoscope of emotions, impressions and vision. The art exhibit, called Continuum: The World Seen Through the Passionate Eyes of Ten Photographers, is being held at the Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre. The show opens on Sunday, Sept. 23 with an artist reception running from 2-5 p.m. The show ends on Oct. 28. The gallery is located at 1086 Burnhamthorpe Rd. E.
