Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McGrath have received the following letter and citation.

7th Cdn. Med. Regt. RCA
Cdn. Army Overseas
BLA

22nd May|45

Dear Mrs. McGrath
The enclosed certificate from Fd. Marshal Montgomery has only just arrived at the Regt.

I had looked forward to presenting this certificate to your son personally, but now that is not possible and I know you will treasure it in memory of a very gallant son, I am forwarding it to you.

Your son was a very nice chap who had made many friends throughout the Regt and I can only say how very sorry we all were when he was taken away from us.

I want you to know that he did his task well and died that others might live.

The officers and men of the Regt. join me in offering you our sincere sympathy.

Sincerely yours,
F.P. Hayward, Lt.-Col.

It has been brought to my notice that you have performed outstanding good service, and shown great devotion to duty during the campaign in North West Europe.

I award you this certificate as a token of my appreciation and I have given instructions that this shall be noted in your Record of Service.

Commander in Chief 21st Army Group

Date – 20th April 1945

Our village is justly proud of this fine young man who was the first to enlist when war broke out, going overseas with the 45th. He paid the Supreme Sacrifice in July, 1944. Jack was born in Kinmount and received his education at the Public and Continuation Schools here. He was a favourite with all his friends.
