Toronto Flier Killed, Guelph Man Missing

Pilot-Officer W.J.G. Mitchell dead – Fear for Flight Lieutenant J. Sullivan

The British air ministry reports Pilot Officer William James Grace Mitchell, 21, R.A.F., was killed in action May 25. From Toronto, he was a member of a noted military family. His father, Charles Mitchell of Kirkfield, was a lieutenant in the R.A.F in the last war.


Mitchell attended St. Andrew's college two years and worked in the Bank of Montreal here before going overseas in May 1938. He has a brother Peter at a wireless operators' training school in England.


Listed among Canadian members of the R.A.F. missing is Flight-Lieut. John Sullivan, 26, son of Joseph Sullivan, Macdonnell St., Guelph.


A graduate of Guelph collegiate, Sullivan served with the R.C.M.P. in Ottawa before going overseas. He was promoted to the rank of flight-lieutenant only a few months ago. He was born at Smith's Falls.
